The Dodo bird

For the last week LS2 had to do there own little mini inquiry. We first had to pick a letter from the alphabet and had to choose some topics that fitted under that letter. My letter was D, I picked a Dodo bird which was a flightless extinct bird. I had to use the sites that we learnt from Mrs Ogilvy and use 3 different sources. I really enjoyed this task because we got to choose a topic that we are interested in.

Reading

For reading we were playing a game which helped us look for the main idea. For this game we had to read a short passage , look for the main idea and then drag it into a paper. After we done that, we would have more passages and had to look for more main ideas. I think, by playing this game it really made me think about the question and look for the main idea. I found this game really fun and helpful.

Touch Rugby

Today was our second session of touch rugby. We first started off with some running warmups and then got into some team excersizes.  In my group we had to tap the ball with our feet and run to the second set of cones and place the ball down and run to the other side. We kept doing team exercises as a group so we could work together. Then we split into 2 groups boys and girls,  the boys went to play a game while the girls worked over on the field with Trevor and learnt some new strategies.  Then we swapped over. I really enjoyed playing Touch with Trevor and Mr M.

How to narrow your research

Last week Mrs Ogilvy taught the year 8's and some year 7's some research skills we then had to come back and teach the year 7's the learning we did. We then learnt as a class some research skills and had to create a DLO on how we could remind ourselves on how to narrow our research. We were learning how to narrow our research. Some steps I learnt how to do was use keywords instead of using the full question. I learnt some really interesting ways on how to narrow my research.

Cyber Safe with Mrs Ogilvy

Today Mrs Ogilvy came from the National library to talk to the year 8's about cyber safe. Mrs Ogilvy was the partner of the teacher in LS1. She taught us some really interesting ways on how to search faster. She talked to us about using key words and how google is not a machine so it can't understand everything you are typing or wanting. The next thing she taught us was  how we can rely on the internet. We used the C.R.A.A.P test to help us out on this. She also showed us two very helpful websites that we could use instead of google. These 2 websites were really helpful as we don't have to attribute the image. The 2 websites were Kids info bits, and Britannica. We then had to come back and teach the Year 7's what we had learnt at cyber safe in the library. I really enjoyed this as we got to learn some new tricks and some new websites.

Reading Challenge

For the past few days for reading we had to work collaboratively as a group to complete the task. First, our teacher told us nothing, instead of saying anything she wrote what she needed to say on her laptop, from there we worked as a group to figure out what to do. We first had to read a big book as a group and write what happened in the story in exact 25 words. Our next task was to fill in the blanks for these 2 other stories, the first one we got was slightly easy but the second one was slightly harder because it used harder words and it had an longer story. As we worked as a group we got the task finished and filled in all the gaps by trying it. We had to follow the instructions and understand the meaning of the story. We were learning to skim and scan so we could find the word that best fitted in the gap. I really enjoyed this task as we had to follow the instruction because it was an different way of doing the activity. Our learning intention was to follow instruction and making sure we had to read for meaning and understanding.

Rhythm Interactive

Today we had rhythm interactive with Johnny and Lucy. They came from all over the world to teach kids and adults from all ages to play the drum. They told us that actions speak louder than words. Everyone got to play on there own drum so everyone got to experience the drum personally. We first had to copy the rhythm Johnny and Lucy was playing and had to use our palm and finger tips to control the sound. Lots of us, really enjoyed this session because each of us got a drum to play on which meant we didn't have to share it around. Teachers also got a drum to play on. Johnny and Lucy did not speak through out the whole session because they wanted us to learn that actions speak louder than words. Everybody really enjoyed Rhythm interactive.

Hydration & Dehydration

Starting from this week Panmure Bridge School had to come with water to school to keep hydrated. My partner and I created an DLO on why it is important for kids in school to drink water and to see what the difference is between hydration and dehydration. I learnt that hydration is when you have enough water in your body to keep you healthy and clean and dehydration is when your body doesn't have the right amount of water which causes headaches, makes you dizzy, feel moody or just in a angry/lazy mood. It is important for school to have water because we need to stay hydrated so we can focus on our school work.

Dance Session

Today the Year 8's  had there first dance session with Sonja. We first started off with a rock and roll cha cha cha. I really enjoyed working with the other people because I got to try the dance a new way. We had an 1 hour session, and we managed to get a lot of stuff done. I really enjoyed our first session.

Flight Maths Challenge

For this Week's maths, LS2 have been working collaboratively on a flight challenge to do with maths. We had to follow the instruction on the T.V and had to read it carefully in order to do it carefully. Our first task was to get into our groups, then we had to make our own planes and test out which person flew it the furtherest. We then had to discuss as a group who plane we were going to use as a team plane and have a competition with the groups. Once all the teams had there design we had a competition on who would chuck it the furtherest. We changed one of the variables which was the wind, once we did this some of the students planes went far than before and some went a shorter distance. We also measured how far the planes went. The top 3 was Thomas, Tai, and Zahn. I really enjoyed this task because we had no help but if we wanted help we would be able to ask our teachers. I also liked how our group worked as a team to finish off the design. For our group we got 6.44 for our first throw, 6.20 for our second throw, 4.25 for our third throw and 5.19 for our 5th.
