Hauora

For the past weeks we have been learning about what Hauora is and how it can relate to an athlete. I learnt that if one wall falls apart the whole house will fall apart which relates to an athlete. I also learnt that the 4 walls ( Whare tapa wha ) names are Taha Wairua, Taha Whanau, Taha Hinegnaro, Taha Tinana. Each of the walls stand for something which are Mental and emotional wellbeing, Physical well being, Social Wellbeing, and spiritual wellbeing.  In this challenge we also did our pulse rate to see how many pulse rates we have in one minute.

Run, Jump, Throw

Today I created this DLO which explains on some skills/tips to do high jump. I have compared a picture of me and a picture of an actual athlete doing the high jump to see if I used the same technique as the athlete.   I was also comparing the way she does her high jump to my one to see what I can improve and what I did correctly. Here are some skills I learnt when  I went to Run, Jump, Throw.

Warriors

Today Panmure Bridge School was lucky enough to have two members from the Warrior's club to come and talk to us , thanks to Alice from the DTR who organized this event. Ryan Hoffman and John Palavi came and talked to us about our health and hygiene which were, Sleep, Belonging and Hydration. Georgia also came to our school and she was the person leading the assembly. They first introduced them selfs and told us what there favourite ice cream was. After that, they spinned this wheel with all these activities that they were going to do with us. The first activity they did with us was trivia. We were split into groups with the 2 athletes and if we knew the answer we had to scream out the athletes name and the person who answered it correctly would receive some prizes. The prize winners would receive a warriors bottle or a warriors bag. I really enjoyed learning about this topic.

The magic box poem

In the picture above is my poem I wrote about what I would put in my magic box.  First LS2 read the original poem of the magic box, then we took a template of that poem and filled out what I would put in. I first chose three things and then made those into sentences to see what I would put. I was learning how to write a descriptive poem. To help me out on this poem I also used my 5 senses. My favorite line from this was " the stars in the sky re imagined as marshmallows and edible diamonds ".

Run, Jump, Throw

On Thursday LS2 went and had our session with Andi for Run, Jump, Throw. This week we looked at long jump and some of the skills you need to do for that activity. First we revisited the skills we practiced last week. The skills we learnt about Long jump is that we need to bend our knees and end in a squat position. I had fun learning about this.

Current Events - Olympics

Today we looked at an article about a New Zealander ( Nikki Hamblin) who tripped and a person from the other team ( Abbey D'agostino ) who helped her up in the middle of the race. Abbey D'agostino showed an excellent example  of sportsmanship and fair play. Abbey is a true hero by helping up someone in the olympics even though they were competing against each other.  In this DLO I included the When, where, who, what, why and how. I also included the point of view for the different perspectives. What Abbey did was truly showing fair play and sportsmanship. Would you stop to help her even though you were in a race? From this article I  learnt that Nikki tripped because someone else tripped her which made her stop running and Abbey saw that she was injured so she helped her up and told her that they needed to finish the race together.

Olympics Comparison

We have been learning to consider both sides of a provocation so that we can make an informed opinion. Mrs Anderson asked us to think about the two sides or the provocation and to think about the point of view for the the people who agree for it and the people who disagree with it. To make our informed opinion we had to think about both sides and do a little bit or research on this. My DLO shows a before and after picture of the swimming pool in 2008 and in 2016. I also included a point of view for the people who disagree with it and the people who agreed with it if they should spend so much money on the olympics venues. In the middle is a little explanation on my opinion for the provocation. I think they should not spend so much money on it because after the olympics are finished it is going to have no use.

Maths Games

In the pictures above are some of my screenshots of the maths games I have been practicing. I have been practicing rounding number, ordering numbers and ordering fractions. I was practicing these skills to prepare me for the IKAN test because these were the skills that I needed to learn. I really enjoyed this activity because I wanted to get some good results.

Run, Jump, Throw

Today LS2 had a session with Andy all together including the Year 7. First we were talking about the skills we did last week which were look ahead, light feet, stand straight, bent arms and cheek to cheek. Today we talked about distance run and sprinting. First we played a warmup game called octopus. The aim of this game was there were 4 taggers and everybody has to run to the other side without getting touched. This game was a bit hard because there were lots of people playing and there were 4 taggers which made it easier for them. Andy also told us that when athletes run in the beginning they use high knees.  We learnt to stay one metre from the line. We first had to put our left feet to the line when she said take your mark, then we had to bend our right knee and bend our opposite hand to our leg. When she said On your mark ( CLAP ) we then had to run to the other side.

Ancient and Modern Olympics

For the past 2 weeks we have done our inquiry rotation. For our inquiry we are learning about the olympics. I was learning about the modern and ancient olympics. We first had to do our Prior knowledge and then had had to find some new information to create a new understanding. I learnt that in the ancient olympics the men would run naked and compete like that and women were not allowed to compete or watch the games. I learnt some really interesting facts for modern and ancient olympics. I hope you can learn some new facts too.

Big Sleep Out

Today, we were doing the current events on the big sleep-out that has been happening in Auckland. This article was about the life wise people getting people to fundraise for the homeless people by sleeping on cardboard in there sleeping bags. There goal was to raise $400,000 but raised more. I learnt that people slept on the rough grounds to support the homeless. It is important to know whats happening at the moment or happening around the world. This is a really important event especially for the homeless people.

Run, Jump, Throw

On Thursday we had run, jump, throw. For that session we had to use the skills or think of the skills we remembered from last years session and use it. Our instructor name was andy and she was really good when she was teaching because she made it really fun. We learnt some tips on how to run fast which were, light feet, look ahead, straight like a giraffe, bent arms and cheek to cheek. I think these skills a good if you want to run as fast as possible. I really enjoyed run, jump, throw.

Olympics Logo

This is my olympics logo that my group created. I worked with Silivia and Mahdia. In the picture above is the new logo we created for the olympics. The world stands for all the countries that are participating in the olympics and we added the olympic rings because this has to do with the olympics. We also included some stars because we took something from the New Zealand flag and added it to here but we made it white.

HoverBike

This is a DLO advertising the new hover bike. For this task we watched a funny animation about the new hover bike,  and had to work with a partner to create an advertising introducing the new hover bike. We had to include language features such as exaggerating words, emotive language and some statistics. In the DLO we tried to include every language feature and added a picture of what the hover bike looks like.  I learnt that advertising is when you show the targeted audience the product so you can make them think like you or make them want to buy that product.

Quizizz

Today LS2 were practising our timetable on Quizizz. We practising recalling our family of facts and our fractions at speed. In the picture above I had a low ranking because I need to learn more about fractions. The second time I tried this game I came 4th which tells me that I really know my timetables. For the first one I got 90% accuracy but then got 100% on my second go. I think this is a great game to help you practice your math skills.

I came 3rd for this program and received a prize. In the prizes we received things to eat during the olympics, thing to play with and just fun prizes. Thank you to Rachel for organizing this program and giving out the prizes.
