Wheel Chair Volley Ball

For this activity we had to create a new sport to play in the Paralympic Games but we had to remember that there were athletes that can't run, walk, hear or see. So for this activity I chose to create a game called Wheel chair volleyball.  To play this sport, they are all on wheel chairs ( right ) but instead of them running for the ball they are on there wheelchair. This game is probably like the normal volley ball but on wheelchairs. The only different thing is that the net is a bit shorter or bigger depending on the sizes of the wheelchair.

Here are 3 rules for this sport:

  1. Each player must me 30cm away from each other.
  2. The person who first  receives the ball in the match must be the leader for the game for that night.
  3. Each time one team scores that will be 5 points.

Raising Money Ideas

Activity 2: It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to fund-raise in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team. What could you do to help raise funds to support our amazing Paralympic athletes? On your blog, list 2 different ways in which you, your family or friends could raise money to support the athletes.

In the paragraph above it explains what we had to do for the activity. If I had to fundraiser money to help the Paralympic Games I would:

Sell baked or drinks out:
I would make a lemonade stand and sell some lemonade because I have a lemon tree which means I'm not wasting any money on buying stuff to make money. ( Hoped that makes sense ) I would also sell cookies or bread because my family works for a bread company and always give us some so it would be thoughtful to sell some of those. Another thing I would do is do sausage sizzles as a family thing near the fields and that because lots of people get hungry around there.

Offer to do chores for neighbors:
I would ask my neighbors to do some chores around the house ( especially the one that lives nearby because they are getting old ) like washing the dishes, taking the clothes out and hanging on the clothes line, and folding the clothes away. I would also do some gardening because that job is really hard work which means more money.

Here are the things I would do to earn money.

Paralympics Games

Activity 1: At the first ever Paralympic Games in Rome, the athletes competed in eight sports. Cycling was one of them. For the cycling event, two people compete together as a team – one of the people has a disability and the other does not. Here is a picture of a para-cycling team from New Zealand:

At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why.

If I had to choose someone to compete with in the Paralympics I would choose my friend Mahdia because 1st of all we are close friends 2ND we work best together and 3rd because we are really challenging people and we both work hard and show teamwork and team spirit. I also think Mahdia and I would compete together because we push each other to achieve and acomlpish our goals. We also would work best together because we encourage each other and don't look down on any other teams which is really important thing to do when playing any kind of sports. Mahdia and I would be the perfect team because we both know what we will be doing and we will have fun no matter what.
