This is a collage showcasing the events that happened in 2016. I really enjoyed this year because we worked in a new learning space and we had a mixed class. I am going to really miss this school because I wont be able to see some of my friends. My favorite part for this year was going on a trip with the whole class.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

The Labyrinth
For the past 2 days we have been doing a film study on The labyrinth. The reason why we were doing this was because David Bowie was acting in this movie and he just passed away early this year. We looked at some of the shots they did and some clues in the movie. In the DLO above it shows all the characters and my favourite part. I really enjoyed this movie because it was really funny and there were lots of different characters.

Maths ( Greater Than, Less Than, Equal To )
For todays math we have been looking at Grater than, Less than and equal to. One way that made me recognizes the difference is ( < ) this is less than because the point of this is small and ( > ) this is greater than because the big side is facing this side. We had to complete these question to get a bit of practice on how these work. I really found this easy because I already knew about these things. I also found interesting that none of the equations needed an equal sign.
Tahuna Torea
Here is my prezi about our trip to Tahuna Torea. The reason why we went on this trip was because it was linked to our topic flight and all senior classes had been looking at the Godwit / Kuaka. The view was really beautiful and we saw lots of interesting things. I also enjoyed playing on the park because there were lots of playground equitment to go on. I really enjoyed playing on the high ropes, the swings and the swirly thing. I really enjoyed my time here.

Photo Collage @ TC
This is a photo collage on what we did on Friday. This collage tells a story in time order on what we did. We first had a revise on the scientific words like hypothesis, variables, and way more. My hypothesis was that I thought my straw rocket would go far, but when it was time to test it out my straw rocket didn't go as far as I wanted it to go. My favorite part was after lunch when we were going to make a real rockets and launch them with real engines. We didn't get to finish them so we are going to finish them this friday.

Kuaka Migration - Reading
For the next 2 weeks of school we will be working on a multi-model. The task is about the Kuaka Migration. In today's session we were using our prior knowledge ( facts we already know ). We had to find out some ways of how people might of traveled today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. We had to use our own knowledge so that we can understand what we are doing. We also looked back at our question matrix and changed some questions and finished in the gaps that had nothing. I think this was a good way of learning because we all worked as a group and we all understood our learning that was going on.

How to make Straw Rockets
Here is a presentation on how to make straw rockets. This is really easy because there weren't much steps. I really likes this activity because it was fun and it didn't really take up lots of time. The first step was to cut the straw in half and put some tape on the end of the straw. The second step was to test out your fins and record your results. To find out what to do next you will have to read the presentation. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Rockets @ TC
On Friday, we spent the whole day at Tamaki Collage making rockets. The first thing we did was make straw rockets. These were really fun as we got to create them and blow them ourselves. Plus, they were really easy to make. After we had lunch, it was time to create the real rockets with real engines and to launch them into the sky. We first had to design all of our rockets and then have to launch them.

On Wednesday we had a full day of art. We were focusing on the Hundertwasser arts. We created a google doc of some facts about his early life to connect with the art. I thing I learnt about his art is he doesn't like straight lines and he always thinks about the hot and cold colours. After we found the information we started our piece of art work. The picture above shows my finished piece of art. I am really proud of the outcome, because of the choice of colour of hot and cold.

Role of S.W.I.S
As part of my care awards one of the activities was to research the roll of the S.W.I.S company and how they are helpful in schools. This activity was under the Attitude award. I learnt that S.W.I.S stands for Social workers in school. The SWIS company helps other families in needs or are going through problems. They also help parents to get the right education for there child and to help them with school life events.

Dear Term 1 & 4 Nesi
At the start of Term 1 we wrote a letter to our future self in Term 4. In my letter I included questions that I would think about in Term 4 and some of my goals. Now that we are in Term 4, I had to reflect on my 1st letter and reply. In my 2nd letter I included the things I achieved and the great things I have done. From today, I have 172 blog post. I am very happy of the way I have turned out this year, because at the start of the year, I was so shy and scared, but now I am confident and independent. I really liked this way of writing.

A Group Reading Challenge
For last week and this week were split into read groups and had to complete some challenges based on the pigeons that saved the soldiers in the war. Most of the tasks were if they were special of pest. I think they are very special because they risked there lives to save other people and helped them with other important information. We also synthesise our main ideas to create one statement and used it to back up our information. Our learning intention was to identify the main ideas in the text.

Hockey
Today we had our first session of Hockey for Kiwi sport. We first learnt how to dribble the ball and how to control the stick. Our first warmup game was octopus, we played this until we were warmed up and ready to play. We had to dribble the ball to the other side of the room and had bounce the ball on the stick as many times as we could. After we learnt all of the skills, we played a game of hockey where the instructors called out a number and that people had to go and try score it. I had a really fun time at sport because I learnt some new skills,
Library Visit
Today the librarians for Panmure Bridge School went down to the Panmure local library to see how they run things and how it is different to a normal school library. When we first got there, they told us some of the things the do and what types of job there are in a library. Once we finished that, we had a little tour of the library. My favourite part of the tour was when the lady ( Anita ) showed us upstairs where they had 2 lounges and how sometimes they would have a movie time. The next task was to order the books and use the skills we learnt. I really liked using the scanner because there was a little mat which we just put the book on and it will scan it for you. We also had to give them some ideas of some activities to do for the summer reading challenge. Once that was all done we had morning tea provided for us and it was time to go. I really enjoyed learning about what they do at a local library and what types of jobs they do.

Speech Marks
Our focus in writing today was to understand how to use and punctuate dialogue. Followed by creating a DLO that helps others learn exciting ways of using dialogue in writing. I worked with Mia, We had to add examples followed by clip art images , 8 synonyms with the word said and explain how to use it. I found a video that can help others use speech marks correctly. I enjoyed working collaboratively with Nesi because we came up with some really good ideas.

Reading Online Challenges
Today we had to play some online reading challenges. For these games we were practicing most of our reading skills, like inferencing, synthesizing , questioning, making connections, and visualizing. All of these games were really helpful because it made me think about all the skills I have learnt this year.

God wit / Kuaka Facts
For this week's inquiry we are looking at the god-wit bird. I had to complete a grid of the habitat, appearance, diet, and predator and use that information to create a popplet that shows us what a god-wit is. I really enjoyed doing some research about this because I have never heard of this bird before, and because I found out that they can fly all the way to alaska without stoping for weeks.

Film Festival Comments
Today we went to Sylvia Park to the Film Festival 2016. We had to comment on the film that were shown to show our support and our feedback. Here are my 3 helpful and kind comments. I really enjoyed watching Tamaki College's films because it was funny and it made us get hooked in straight away with the music and the effects.

Hyperbole
This Week we have been learning about Hyperbole. Hyperbole is pronounced as Hi - per - buh - li. Hyperbole is used to create affect in our stories and not make them boring, you also exaggerate to make it more interesting but is not meant to be taken seriously. One example is I'm so hungry I could eat a horse. By this phrase they meant that they are really hungry they could eat lots of food.
