For the next 2 weeks of school we will be working on a multi-model. The task is about the Kuaka Migration. In today's session we were using our prior knowledge ( facts we already know ). We had to find out some ways of how people might of traveled today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. We had to use our own knowledge so that we can understand what we are doing. We also looked back at our question matrix and changed some questions and finished in the gaps that had nothing. I think this was a good way of learning because we all worked as a group and we all understood our learning that was going on.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

A Group Reading Challenge
For last week and this week were split into read groups and had to complete some challenges based on the pigeons that saved the soldiers in the war. Most of the tasks were if they were special of pest. I think they are very special because they risked there lives to save other people and helped them with other important information. We also synthesise our main ideas to create one statement and used it to back up our information. Our learning intention was to identify the main ideas in the text.

Reading
For reading we were playing a game which helped us look for the main idea. For this game we had to read a short passage , look for the main idea and then drag it into a paper. After we done that, we would have more passages and had to look for more main ideas. I think, by playing this game it really made me think about the question and look for the main idea. I found this game really fun and helpful.

I read 3 article and these were the words I found out. The most interesting word I found out was stench. It means a very strong unpleasant smell.

Scavenger Hunt
Today I completed one of the Can Do's. For this Can Do I had to go on a scavenger hunt. First I had to read an artcle and answer the following items above. My favourite one I did was the one I had to write an interesting fact. The artcle I read was called Banana's may be extinct from kiwi kids news. I think it was informing us because it was telling us that banana's may be extinct in 5-10 year. If you want to find out why, go on the kiwi kids news to find out more about it.

Olympics Comparison
We have been learning to consider both sides of a provocation so that we can make an informed opinion. Mrs Anderson asked us to think about the two sides or the provocation and to think about the point of view for the the people who agree for it and the people who disagree with it. To make our informed opinion we had to think about both sides and do a little bit or research on this. My DLO shows a before and after picture of the swimming pool in 2008 and in 2016. I also included a point of view for the people who disagree with it and the people who agreed with it if they should spend so much money on the olympics venues. In the middle is a little explanation on my opinion for the provocation. I think they should not spend so much money on it because after the olympics are finished it is going to have no use.

Big Sleep Out
Today, we were doing the current events on the big sleep-out that has been happening in Auckland. This article was about the life wise people getting people to fundraise for the homeless people by sleeping on cardboard in there sleeping bags. There goal was to raise $400,000 but raised more. I learnt that people slept on the rough grounds to support the homeless. It is important to know whats happening at the moment or happening around the world. This is a really important event especially for the homeless people.

Buddy Reading Week 1
Today we had Buddy reading with the students in Room 4 and 3. We had buddy reading to help the little kids to encourage them to read more often and to pay it forward. My partner was from room 4 and her name was Huiaa. My partner read to me and I read to her. At first my partner was really shy so I asked her some questions about the book like
- What is the title of the book?
- Who is your favourite character?
- Do you have a pet cat?
- Did you enjoy this story?
- Do you want to read this story again?
- What picture did you like the best?
I asked these questions to help my partner not be shy. The book we read together was called butter flies in my stomach. I really enjoyed reading to my partner, and asking her some questions about her book.

Book Character Week
Today ( Thursday ) Panmure Bridge School had a character book week. Each class dressed up as a character from there favourite book. We did this activity to bring the magic of books alive to the little kids so we don't stop learning. Everyone was dressed up including teachers, students and the guest that came from the rotary Pakuranga Club. I chose to go as a vampire from the book, the spooky house. I chose to go as this character because I enjoyed reading this book over and over. My teachers got dressed up as witches. I think everyone did a great job with there costumes because nearly everyone got dressed. I think this was a great way to bring the magic of books alive to the little juniors.

Comprehension Reading Challenges
Today I was practicing my comprehension games. I was learning about what is a fact and what is an opinion. I played 3 different games to help me understand this pro-ply. This website is really interesting because it really helps you with the skills you are stuck on reading. This website really helped me with my reading because I learnt new stuff for every game I played. The first game I played was it showed a question and I had to type down if it was a fact or an opinion. This can really help you to make new sense of learning. If you want to go on this website here is the link:

Comprehension Challenges
Today I played some reading games to help me practice all the learning skills I have learnt from the past few weeks. For one of the games I had to read the text and answer the the question or pick the answer that was correct. For one of the other games it was like memory but there were some cards and it had a text on and had the words entertain, inform or persuade. I then had to pick the word that matched the text I just finished reading. I was practicing authors purpose and using pie to help me up with this.

6 Thinking hats
This is a presentation on Charlotte Anne. Charlotte anne was a normal lady. Back in those days women weren't aloud to do jobs like the men. Charlotte anne showed everyone that she is just as strong as men. I was learning to synthesize our knowledge of a topic to help us form a new understanding.

Synthesizing
Today at reading we were learning about synthesizing. We had to write our prior knowledge about Gorillas. My partner and I then read some information about Gorillas. First I thought Gorillas were black and hairy aggressive animals. After reading some information about it I found out that Gorillas are an endangered animal. I also found out that Gorillas build a nest every evening and A group of Gorillas is called a troop. I then took the information I knew and took my new knowledge to make my new thinking. I found out that Gorillas don't destroy there food source.

Main purpose of the Poem
This week we have been observing the main idea. We have been reading Anzac poem and have been exploring with the main idea about that poem. The poem I read was called The soldier who never returned. The main idea was about the soldier who never returned. I knew the main ideas was about this because I got a hint from the title. The title says the Soldier who never returned which tells us it is about a soldier who never returned for his drink.
